Find Your Balance

Therapy Logistics
& Process

  • Finding the right therapist is an important step, and I’m here to make that process as comfortable as possible. We begin with a 15 minute complimentary consultation, which gives us a chance to connect, discuss your needs, and see if my approach aligns with what you’re looking for. This consult is a relaxed, no-pressure opportunity for us to explore whether working together feels right for you. If you decide to pursue counseling we will meet for your first session, which is another opportunity to see if it feels like you and your counselor are a good match. If for any reason it doesn’t feel like the connection or support you were looking for, we are happy to provide referrals to help you find the best match.

  • In your first therapy session with your counselor, you can expect a welcoming and supportive environment where you'll discuss your background and the reasons you're seeking therapy. The counselor will introduce themselves and explain their approach, ensuring you understand confidentiality and any relevant policies. Together, you’ll explore your current concerns, share your personal history, and begin to outline your goals for therapy. This initial meeting is an opportunity for you to ask questions and assess whether the counselor is a good fit for you, setting the stage for a collaborative and productive therapeutic journey.

  • There’s no need to bring anything specific to your first session—just yourself. However, if you have any relevant medical records, a list of medications, or notes about your thoughts and feelings that you’d like to share, you’re welcome to bring those along. Above all, come as you are; the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and ready to start our work together.

  • Yes, we offer virtual therapy sessions to provide flexible and accessible care throughout the state of New Jersey. Virtual sessions work much like in-person sessions; we’ll connect via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform that ensures your privacy and confidentiality. You can join from the comfort of your home or any private space where you feel safe to talk. For Virtual sessions you will need a strong internet connection and it is strongly suggested that you use a device that you don’t need to hold and also have headphones available for privacy. Virtual therapy offers the same level of connection and support, making it a great option for those balancing busy schedules or preferring to meet remotely, the only requirement is that you are located in the state of NJ at the time of your session.

  • Therapy sessions are typically structured as a 50-minute hour to create a focused environment for reflection and growth. This timeframe allows for meaningful exploration of thoughts and feelings while maintaining essential boundaries that ensure fairness and consistency for all clients. It also provides a brief moment to process insights before leaving, helping you prioritize concerns and articulate thoughts effectively. By adhering to this format, we respect both your time and that of others, fostering a productive therapeutic experience. Thank you for your understanding in maintaining these important boundaries.

  • Therapy is a collaborative process, and your comfort is essential. If something doesn’t feel right or you’re not connecting with the approach, we can adjust our methods or explore different techniques that resonate better with you. Your feedback is always welcomed, and our sessions are designed to be flexible, adapting to what works best for you.

  • Yes, everything you share in therapy is confidential. Your privacy is a top priority, and all sessions are protected under strict confidentiality agreements in compliance with HIPAA regulations. The only exceptions to this confidentiality is if you are in danger of harming yourself or someone else or if there are allegations of abuse. If these concerns are present, we will talk about them together and take proactive steps to ensure everyone’s safety. Beyond that, your information remains private, ensuring a safe space where you can speak openly and honestly.

  • We understand that life happens to all of us and we strive to be as flexible as possible; and communication is key for everyone involved. We view our relationship with you as a partnership in your care, and we appreciate your mutual dedication to your treatment plan and scheduled appointments. When you book an appointment with us, we reserve time exclusively for you.

If you need to cancel your appointment, we kindly ask that you do so at least 24 hours in advance. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the appointment will incur a full session fee of $150.

Thank you for your understanding and commitment to your care

Our primary focus is on individual therapy, where we work one-on-one to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. We use evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness techniques, and trauma-informed care, all aimed at helping you find balance and healing. Additionally, our practice offers support groups for new moms, psycho-educational groups focused on the emotional side of pelvic pain, and parenting skills groups to meet your needs in various therapeutic settings. Each service is designed with care, compassion, and a deep understanding of the emotional complexities of family-building and parenthood.

  • We recognize that every woman’s journey through the family-building years deserves compassion, validation, and support. Our practice is dedicated to assisting women in navigating perinatal mental health, birth trauma, infertility, and neonatal loss, while also addressing the emotional aspects of pelvic floor pain. Our goal is to help women find balance and self-compassion as they embrace the challenges and joys on the journey of motherhood. If you’re looking for a nurturing, non-judgmental space to explore your emotions and find your way forward, you’re in the right place.

Specialized Services & Support Groups

  • The SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) program is a parent-centered approach designed to support parents of children experiencing anxiety or OCD. Unlike traditional child-focused therapy, SPACE focuses on empowering you as a parent to make changes that positively impact your child’s emotional well-being. As a certified SPACE provider, we guide parents through specific strategies to reduce accommodating behaviors, respond empathetically, and foster resilience in their child. This approach not only helps your child feel safer and more confident but also strengthens your ability to support them in a calm, nurturing way. SPACE is especially beneficial when a child is reluctant to engage in therapy directly, offering parents the tools to create a more supportive family environment. SPACE sessions can be held with individual parents or in a group setting with other parents experiencing the same struggles. Please contact us if you are interested in a SPACE group.

  • Balanced Reflection Counseling has joined forces with Breathe Life Physical Therapy to offer a one-of-a-kind educational support group that addresses the deep connection between pelvic health and emotional well-being. Many women experience pelvic dysfunction, pain, or discomfort, which is often linked to emotional stress or trauma. In these groups, we explore how physical symptoms and emotional experiences are interconnected, providing education, guidance, and therapeutic support to help you reclaim comfort in your body. By building emotional resilience, you’ll learn practical strategies to manage pelvic pain, cope with the emotional impact of chronic or acute discomfort, and develop coping tools for stress and frustration. Our goal is to foster a safe, non-judgmental space where your experiences are validated, and your healing process is honored.

  • Joining a postpartum support group can be incredibly helpful if you’re feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure about your transition into motherhood. If you find yourself struggling with mood swings, anxiety, or simply feeling like you need to connect with others who understand what you’re going through, a support group can offer a nurturing environment where you can share experiences, gain insights, and receive encouragement. These groups are not just for those with severe postpartum issues—they are for any new mother seeking community, understanding, and practical strategies to manage the ups and downs of this life stage.

  • Yes, our support groups are open to new members, and we welcome you to join whenever you feel ready. Groups are designed to be inclusive and supportive, providing a sense of community that grows with each new participant. Whether you’re looking to start right away or just exploring your options, you can reach out to learn more about current group availability and how to join. We do ask for an RSVP because we strive to make each group a welcoming space where you can feel comfortable and connected - we we want to be ready to greet you!

  • Absolutely. Our support groups are designed to complement individual therapy, offering additional support, community, and shared experiences. You can benefit from group dynamics while continuing your individual work with your current therapist. Many participants find that combining group and individual therapy enhances their overall healing process, providing multiple layers of support and perspective.

  • Yes, you are welcome to bring your partner to therapy sessions when it feels appropriate and supportive of your goals and after discussing it with your therapist first to make a plan. Sometimes, having your partner involved can be incredibly helpful, especially if you’re navigating challenges together, like postpartum adjustments or birth trauma. In these sessions, we can focus on fostering communication, understanding each other's perspectives, and strengthening your relationship as you work through shared experiences. If you’re considering this, we can discuss the best way to integrate your partner into our work together.

  • While our primary focus is on individual therapy and supporting women through their personal and family-building challenges, we do occasionally work with couples, especially when there’s a shared issue like adjusting to new parenthood or dealing with a significant loss. If your partner is struggling, we can explore couples sessions to address your needs together. If it seems like more intensive couples therapy would be beneficial, we can also provide referrals to trusted specialists who focus solely on couples work to ensure you both receive the best support possible.

  • Yes, you are more than welcome to bring your baby to therapy sessions, especially during the postpartum period when it can be challenging to find childcare or even to be away from your newborn. We do encourage women to set boundaries and make their session time scared space just for them, however we understand that it is not always possible to get childcare. We strive to make therapy as accessible and comfortable as possible for new mothers, and I understand that having your baby with you might help you feel more at ease. Our office is a flexible, baby-friendly environment where you can tend to your baby’s needs without feeling any pressure or judgment. We ask that any babies being brought to therapy are pre-crawlers and not mobile yet. Once they start moving we know you have to have eyes on them and therapy will not be effective for you if you are chasing after your little wiggler!
